Lin & Jan were feeling the heat at 40 miles, but Carol & I were feeling good. So, we ate a little, filled our water bottles and were on our way again. We felt pretty good at 50 miles so we kept going. At the 60 mile mark, the heat was beginning to get us. It was up into the mid 90's and the sun was beating up off of the asphalt, with no shade trees in sight. I was getting the chills which is not a good sign, so we called it a day and sagged in. We had ridden 63.29 miles and yes I do want credit for the .29.We helped the final riders by getting them water at the final stop and helping to cool them down. When we drove into town, the bank sign said it was 104 degrees. Crazy. We had thunderstorms later in the night.
So, we have been in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and now Indiana. We will still be heading through Ohio, Pensylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and finally to Maine.
Now to a much deserved day off. My goals today are to rest, catch up my blog (which I'm do
ing), get a pedicure, get a few things at Walmart and just veg out a bit. Oh ya, I hear there is a Starbucks. I haven't seen one in nearly three weeks, so I may have to get a Venti "Shot in the Dark".
Of course, a beautiful flag to start my morning!
Nearly all of us were at the first SAG stop (Support and Gear)
Quick in, Quick out!
This was nearly all the traffic we saw on the road today!
Some times, we ride in a line, just like the cows who were "drafting".
This was just so beautiful....
